I remember reading something about them at one time that said the kind of music they make is music that makes you want to die. i'd say that's probably the best statement one can make about them. They make screechy almost incrprehensoilble music. it's not sappily sad like emo music, it's not really depressing like Elliott Smith can be, it's just death. This being said Wolf Eyes is definatly not a band for most people. I know quite a few people who are either disgusted or who just don't get what they do, and i must admit, there are times when i don't understand either. but at the same time, you have to understand that it's really well made.

Album to Buy: Burned Mind
file://www.subpop.com/scripts/main/download.php?url=/downloads/free/Stabbed_in_the_Face271.mp3&mid=271

Patrick Wolf:
Patrick is a british solo independent music maker. He makes music that can really only be defined as Goth. His music is dark and mysterious. He is a Viola player who combines classic training with Manchester dance beats. In a way he is a very typical British goth/electronic artist, yet at the same time there is something very different about him. On his first CD the electronic sounds he made came from Games on an original Nintendo. On his second cd he uses more traditional methods. He is a very interesting artist and i can almost guarentee that there will be at least one song that he performs that everyone can enjoy.

Album to Buy: Wind in the Wires
http://www.myspace.com/officialpatrickwolf

Wolfmother:
Wolfmother is of the strain of the new classic rock revivals bands that i tend to dislike so i'm not going to talk about them that much. I really think that they are not doing anything unique or new to be added to the mix. If you want to look into them go ahead.
http://www.myspace.com/wolfmother

Wolf Parade:
Wolf parade create spastic twitchy music that snares you in it's nets and never lets go. I had an accquientence who considered himself to be the ultimate indie/hipster snob who once said of Wolf Parade, they're weird, i don't know if i like them or not, but Sub Pop said go and buy their cd so i will. Wolf Parade is the band that is critically aclaimed as being gods. This same friend had tried to convince me a year earlier that Modest Mouse was a terrible band who had nothing to do with influencing anybody in the alternative scene and were just a terrible band in general. Wolf parade is greatly influence by Modest Mouse and i know a lot of people say that, but in general if you don't like Modest Mouse You Will not like Wolf Parade. It's True. Wolf Parade make that kind of music but they add their own thing to it. That thing that they add is better songwriters and Spencer Krug who is a god amoung men. He is just awsome in everyway. as you can probably tell Wolf Parade is one of my favorite bands so of course i will talk about them with more delight that most. At the same time i think that everyone should check them out at some point.

Album to Buy: Apologies to The Queen Mary
file://www.subpop.com/scripts/main/download.php?url=/downloads/free/You_Are_A_Runner325.mp3&mid=325

thus ends our biological discusion about wolves i hope you enjoyed and come again some time.

belle and sebastian overrated

so here's the deal. my sisters favorite band is Belle and Sebastian. My sisters ex-boyfriend who turned out to be gay also loves Belle and Sebastian. An art teacher at my former High School loves Belle and Sebastian. Many many indie nerds or hipster kids love Belle and Sebastian. I like Belle and Sebastian. If You're Feeling Sinister is a good lp. The Boy With the Arab Strap has a few great songs on it. Tigermilk also has a few really great songs on it. However i am slowly getting tired of hearing bands name themselves after B & S songs or album titles. Now a lot of these bands are actually very talented induviduals that deserve a lot of respect. Yet at the same time sometimes i wish that they would have created a whole new Band Name instead of taking a song title and naming themselves after that. The other band that seeems to have many people name their bands after them is The Smiths. There are so many good bands who have done Smiths covers or have named something after the Smiths but at the same time there are some terrible bands that have named themselves in response to a Smiths song or lyric.

So what is it about British soft pop bands who dabble in depressing, lyrics that makes people love them, and why can't other bands have this same effect. i honestly don't know
and i honestly don't remember what got me started on this rant.

on that note go check out some stuff by each of these bands i have found in many cases that either people love them or despise them. I think that both bands are extremely talented even if they can get annoying sometimes but you can decide for yourself. Here are Four CD's for you to check out.

If You're Feeling Sinister-Belle and Sebastian
Try this B&S first. It is largly regarded as their best work and has a magical quality to it that's hard to find else where.

Push Barman to Open Old Wounds-Belle and Sebastian
A lot of B&S devotees would not appreciate me putting this on here but at the same time if you are just getting into the band this would probably be the next best step for you. This Collection has b-sides and singles spanning quite a bit of their career.

The Queen Is Dead-The Smiths
This is bar none the best music The Smiths ever put out. If you want to get an introduction to The Smiths start here. I promise that's it's the best place to start especially because it's the least whiney cd they ever put out.

Greatest Hits, Singles collection etc.-The Smiths
I will tell you that the next step if you like The Smiths is to buy one of their numerous collections of songs to see which kind of Smiths song fits you. Then go in look for the songs you like on CD and buy that one.

Original noise

you know the other day i was listening to some My Bloody Valentine and i started thinking about noise. i started thinking about where noise rock came from and i thought back to an artist that i was a huge fan of when i was younger...Jimi Hendrix. he was one of the original noise maker. i started listening to his version of the star spangled banner and i thought wow...this is like the jesus and mary chain, or my bloody valentine, or echo and the bunnymen or even broken social scene.
so i guess my suggestion for today is to pick up some Jimi Hendrix and sit down and listen to him. enjoy it, i guarentee that if you are a fan of noise rock at all there will be at least hendrix song that you will fall in love with.

my top 5 hendrix songs
1.
